SolAxe™ Solar Mining Build Guide, BOM & Stratum Playbook
Learn how we built and calibrated the two solar-powered Bitaxe 801 rigs running at our house, complete with part numbers, wiring steps, and solar battery sizing.
| Subsystem | Part / Specification | Engineering Role | Est. Cost | Source / Link |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ASIC Hashboard | Bitaxe 801 / Gamma (BM1370 ASIC) | ~1.2 TH/s SHA-256 engine @ ~18W | $160–$210 | SoloSatoshi → |
| Weather Enclosure | Matte Black PVC Box (5.9"×4.3"×2.8" / 150×110×70mm) | Gasket-sealed housing with 55 convective exhaust holes | $12–$16 | Source Box → |
| Solar MPPT + Buck | CN3791 MPPT Board + 9V–36V to 5V 5A Buck Converter | Steps raw 12V–22V solar/battery down to regulated 5.20V rail | $14–$22 | Source Electronics → |
| Voltmeter & Harness | 0.28" Red LED Voltmeter + XT30 + 14AWG Solder-Sleeves | Live 5V rail verification & quick-disconnect harness | $8–$13 | Source Harness → |
| Solar Panel & Battery | 100W 18V Monocrystalline Panel + 12.8V 15Ah–20Ah LiFePO4 | Continuous off-grid solar harvest + overnight battery buffer | $115–$165 | Solar & LiFePO4 → |
STEP 01
Enclosure Drilling & Positive-Pressure Intake
Cut the 50mm top intake port with M3 guard mounts, install the PG-13.5 liquid-tight cable gland on the lower side wall, and drill 55× 3.5mm convective exhaust orifices to reject rain spray while purging heat.
STEP 02
XT30 & 5A Fuse Harness Splicing
Route 14AWG silicone solar leads through an inline 5A fast-blow blade fuse into the CN3791 MPPT board, then into the synchronous buck converter, terminating in an XT30 plug with parallel LED voltmeter leads.
STEP 03 (CRITICAL)
5.20V Unloaded Potentiometer Calibration
Before plugging in the Bitaxe 801, apply 12V–18V DC and adjust the buck converter trimpot until the internal red LED voltmeter reads 5.20V DC unloaded—delivering a rock-solid 5.00V–5.02V under full 3.8A ASIC load.
☀️ Off-Grid Solar & LiFePO4 Sizing Formula
A Bitaxe 801 running at 525 MHz / 1060 mV draws ~18.5W (~444 Wh per 24 hours). Pairing a 100W 18V monocrystalline panel (yielding 450–550 Wh/day in sunny climates) with a 12.8V 15Ah–20Ah LiFePO4 battery (~192–256 Wh buffer) keeps your miner hashing through clouds and overnight. Mount the SolAxe box on the shaded underside of the solar panel frame to drop internal ambient temps by 10–15°C.
⛏️ Solo Lottery vs. Group PPLNS Stratum Tuning
Pointing your SolAxe at solo.aviarypool.com:3333 enters every share into the full ~3.125 BTC block bounty with 0% pool fee and direct non-custodial coinbase payout to your address. Use password d=1000 for Bitaxe/NerdQAxe rigs so the pool tracks your real-time 5-minute hashrate smoothly without saturating Wi-Fi.
